Daddy's Shadow

Jack was glued to Daddy all weekend. Craig tried to work on the house outside. Jack would run window to window depending on where Craig was outside. He wanted to go out so badly. Sunday afternoon he did go out for a while and then of course, didn't want to come in. This morning he has been going to the back door and saying, "Daddy, Daddy?" I've tried to explain that Daddy isn't outside in the yard but at work.

Kind of Funny

For a while now I have been trying to figure out the recipe for the coffee cake my mom made often while I was growing up at home. She would make it for company and special weekends. I had some of her recipes here and looked through all of those. When I was home a couple weeks ago, I went through ALL of her hand-written recipes. I pulled out a couple and made each one. They were good, but were not the coffee cake I remembered. One day this week I thought, "If I can't find it written down, maybe it is from a cookbook." I looked through my old church cookbooks, but didn't find one where I thought the ingredients sounded like they would taste like what I was looking for. Then today, I tried a recipe from the Better Homes and Garden Cookbook. That's it!!! It is the buttermilk coffee cake and I am so excited! Now if I could just figure out her meatloaf.

Comfort From Daddy

When Jack was very small, Craig would turn and music and sway him to the music to calm him down and put him to sleep. Ever since, Jack has loved music. Even now, he will point to the stereo and beg to have the music on, then lift his hands to Craig for Craig to pick him up and dance to the music.

Our week

Jack and I have been very busy this week, so today we are staying at home! Monday we ran errands in town, mostly to get groceries. This always seems to take a lot longer than I anticipated. Tuesday, we ran to Iowa City to drop off my flute. It is supposed to be checked, cleaned and maintained once a year. I hadn't had it done since 2000 or 2001. It's kind of expensive so we had put it off. Instead of waiting around with Jack all day, we came home and went back to get my flute Wednesday. Yesterday was Bible study for me and playtime with great grandma for Jack. We usually have lunch there with Grandma after my Bible study. Jack seems to have caught cold in the nursery last Sunday and shared it with me so we are both feeling kind of under the weather. I'm hoping to get some cleaning/organizing and baking done today. I have to take advantage of days with no lessons. I have 3 more students starting next week. We are so thankful for the extra income, but it does make days very full!!!

Easter Sunday 2008

Jack and His Basket

Easter

Craig hid eggs around the living room Saturday night. He left a few in the middle of the living room floor to get Jack started. He figured it out right away and had a lot of fun finding eggs. (especially when he figured out there was candy inside:))

Ready To Shop

When I got Jack up from his nap yesterday, I told him we were going to the store (which he loves!) I told him it was warm outside and he could wear his big-boy hat but we had to change his diaper first. While I was finishing changing him the phone rang, so I put him down to go answer the phone. When I was done on the phone I found him at the back door waiting to go to the car with his hat on. He just didn't have any pants on yet! So funny.

Big Helper

Jack loves being outside and was great help to daddy while he changed the oil in the car.

My Tag Anwsers...Finally

I've really been trying to think of 10 creative, funny things most of you wouldn't know about me and I am stumped. (These are boring.)

HERE'S HOW YOU PLAY...
ONCE YOU'VE BEEN TAGGED YOU HAVE TO WRITE A BLOG OF TEN WEIRD, RANDOM THINGS, FACTS OR HABITS ABOUT YOURSELF.
AT THE END, YOU CHOOSE FIVE PEOPLE TO BE TAGGED, LISTING THEIR NAMES AND WHY YOU CHOSE THEM TO BE TAGGED. DON'T FORGET TO LEAVE THEM A COMMENT "YOU'RE IT" AND TO READ YOUR BLOG.
YOU CAN'T TAG THE PERSON WHO TAGGED YOU. SINCE YOU CAN'T TAG THAT PERSON BACK, LET HIM OR HER KNOW WHEN YOU'VE POSTED YOUR BLOG SO HE OR SHE CAN READ YOUR ANSWERS.
HAVE FUN...

1. I love Diet Coke and Diet Mountain Dew. I prefer fountain pop, but will drink it from a bottle or can if it is really cold.

2. I hate changing poopy diapers, so it is funny that God gave us a little boy that poops A LOT!!! He usually has 3-6 poopy diapers a day.

3. When I first went to college, e-mail was still fairly new (for me anyway.) There was a guy at the same college I went to in Ohio, from Iowa that I knew from church camp. I had a crush on him so I decided to send him an email the first week of school. I signed the email "anonymous." I was too stupid to realize that my name appeared at the top of the email automatically. How embarrassing!!!

4. Craig and I met at church. I was not attracted to him at first and really wished he would go away and leave me alone. He wouldn't give up. As I spent more time with him, and saw his heart, he became very attractive. :)

5. I made my high school letter coat for a sewing contest where you had to use wool. I won in Iowa and got to go to Las Angeles, CA, to participate in the national contest, where I placed 4th. I then entered the same outfit in another contest through 4-H and got to go to Nationals in Chicago.

6. In first grade I had a pair of blue nickers that I wore a lot. A boy in my class would always say to me, "oh, you're wearing your "niggers" today. I didn't know the difference or what he was really saying. One day at recess, I was chasing him saying, "Scott, Scott, I'm wearing my niggers!" The teacher on recess duty was apalled and yelled at me and I lost the rest of my recess.

7. I am a Little House On The Prairie junkie. I love to watch the reruns. I told Craig just the other day that I could have lived then. He disagreed with me.

8. I hate to call people on the phone. I will put it off until I absolutely have to call. It doesn't matter if it's a friend or a stranger.

9. I am definitely a "girly girl." I love clothes, jewelry, shoes, purses, decorating, cooking, baking, etc. I can also get dirty and love adventure. (I have to, living with Craig.)

10. I love 80's music. That is the majority of what is on my MP3 player.

I don't think there is anybody left to be tagged.

I Haven't Lost My Camera...REALLY!

I know I haven't taken many pictures of Jack lately. I just don't think about it. I will make an effort tomorrow. His newest thing is walking outside. I tried it a few weeks ago and he was scared of it. We tried again this last Sunday night. Our Guatemala team gave a presentation of our trip. When we were leaving the church, Craig put Jack down outside and held his hand and he walked all the way to the car. His face was beaming!!! He knew he was doing something big and new. It was so cute! Yesterday it was so nice outside, I took him out and we just walked up and down the sidewalk for about 45 minutes. He loved it. Today, he didn't want to hold my hand. That sure didn't take long! He wants to take off now. Summer will be so fun!

I see that I have been tagged :) I will get to it tomorrow. I need to finish my Bible study lesson for tomorrow morning. Thanks taggers!!!

Sacred

A good friend from college shared this song with me. I so needed the reminder! I too often catch myself thinking or saying, "I can't wait until there's no more diapers, or Jack can walk to the car by himself, do this, do that..." I'm cherishing every moment.

Sacred
by Caedmon's Call

This house is a good mess

it's the proof of life

no way would I trade jobs

but it don't pay overtime

I'll get to the laundry

I don't know when

I'm saying a prayer tonight

cause tomorrow it starts again Could it be that…

Chorus:

everything is sacred?

and all this time

everything I've dreamed of

has been right before my eyes

v2

the children are sleeping

but they're running through my mind

the sun makes them happy

and the music makes them unwind

my cup runneth over

and I worry about the stain

teach me to run to You

like they run to me for every little thing

Bridge:

when I forget to drink from you

I can feel the banks harden

Lord, make me like a stream

to feed the garden

wake up, little sleeper

the Lord, God Almighty

made your Mama keeper

so rise and shine

rise and shine cause

Ending Chorus:

everything is sacred

and all this time

everything I've dreamed of

has been right before my eyes.

Great Shopper

I had mentioned several months ago, that I kind of liked the decorative stars that I had seen in some country decorating magazines. My decorating style is country/cottage for now, mostly because it is cheaper than other things. I actually like several different styles. I really like the look of sleek, clean lines and simple decorating, similar to pottery barn, but if I went with that look, I'd have to buy all new furniture. Our furniture is all currently, from garage sales or hand-me-downs. With my first apartment I would see little things I liked or I would receive things for birthdays/Christmas that just kind of fit the country style. So that's it for now. Anyway, yesterday, several months later, Craig gave me the stars for my birthday present! I was surprised. (He more than made up for Valentine's Day:)

Momnesia

I attend a bible study on Thursday mornings with mostly other young moms. This week another mom mentioned that she saw a story on the news about momnesia and all the things we, as moms, forget. I had an episode of momnesia this morning. I was hurrying to get ready as Jack and I were going to go to lunch with Craig's dad and stepmom. Jack was sleeping and I wanted to be ready when he woke up so I could take care of him then. I decided to change my contacts as the current pair was getting kind of fuzzy. I put in the right and immediately noticed the dramatic improvement in vision. Then I put in the left and it was very blurry. I kept blinking and gently rubbing my eye. Still blurry. I decided to try another new lens for the left eye. Same thing. I couldn't figure out why the problem as I had worn a lens from the same box the last two weeks. I started thinking, the Dr.'s office isn't open today, could I wear a right lens in my left eye, oh, I really don't want to wear my glasses for a week if they have to order the correct prescription,.... As I was taking out the contact and reluctantly getting my glasses, I realized I still had the old contact in AND the new one, two contacts in the same eye! Definitely momnesia!!!

Friday

I don't have much exciting to post tonight. I have been cleaning off and on all day today. (with Jack's help of course :) Craig has been helping me tonight after Jack went to bed. I was just so behind and had sorting, tossing, and cleaning that just had to be done. The downstairs is in pretty good shape. I hope to tackle the upstairs next week. I keep thinking, if I could get all of the house all clean at one time, maybe I will be able to maintain it! We'll see.

Playing With Dadddy

Craig and Jack had a lot of fun last night! They were chasing each other and tickling each other. Jack rode on "Daddy the horse." He also loved riding on daddy's shoulders! I love to watch Jack's eyes when he hears Craig pull into the driveway at night. He never misses it. Then he runs to the back door and waits. Just so sweet!

Monday

I don't have much to report. I'm still very behind and trying to catch up slowly. I feel ok in the mornings but as the day goes on, I get very tired and nauseous. The doctor did prescribe an antibiotic. I do feel fortunate as some of our team is still very sick. Some of us think it was Dominoes pizza that we had in Guatemala City right before we came home. I will try to get some pictures of Jack this week. I haven't done well lately.
